CTTÉI staff members regularly support students in their submissions to competitions and synthesis projects. Since 2002, in collaboration with the Fondation du Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, the CTTÉI has funded an annual $400 environmental studies scholarship awarded to a student whose work has stood out through tangible projects – an initiative that was renewed for the next five years.
After two years of hard work, Cégep de Sorel-Tracy in collaboration with the CTTÉI and private businesses received NSERC accreditation for a project to reclaim fine-grained metallurgical by-products submitted to the fifth College and Community Innovation Program (CCI) last November. The group’s initial letter of intent was accepted, and a full application was filed in April. In the end, the project was not part of the final selection, but evaluators recommended that the group resubmit the application to the next competition.
Marie-Claude Brouillard and Marc Olivier, two research-professors who teach in the workplace environment, hygiene and safety program (Environnement, Hygiène et Sécurité au travail (EHST)), frequently collaborate on CTTÉI projects funded by the Programme d’aide à la recherche technologique (PART). The centre involves a student intern from the EHST program in each PART project and calls upon others to carry out waste characterization and management work. In the past year, three college students participated in various projects.
CTTÉI representatives also contribute to college courses by presenting actual industrial waste reclamation cases. These presentations involve laboratory visits to discuss technical equipment and its uses.
